As Spring arrives here in Sterling, we have had new and varied visitors at the bird feeder, including the beautiful but shy Pine Grosbeaks. We usually see them come to the feeder as a pair, each taking turns to fly to the feeder for seed and suet.

Research tells me they live in coniferous forests throughout the state of Alaska.  I also found out that they are frugivores (new vocabulary for me!) – meaning a fruit eater.  They also eat seeds, buds, berries, and insects – therefore our feeder has become a popular hangout!

It is difficult to get pictures of them as they are very skittish, but we managed to take these after several tries!
